Welcome

Me

Hello to all new and old friends. This blog used to be named “Exploratorium”, but I think this new title better reflects my sense of being on a journey and exploring the world around me. (If you want to read more about the name change, check out this post.)

So, welcome to my blog! Think of this site as a comfy armchair — I invite you to pull up a seat in the library by the fireplace (with a good reading light) where you can browse your pick of books on any subject that catches your eye.

To me, that’s what exploring is about. Exploring is how I understand the world, outer space and inner space. So I tend to like collecting a lot of “what” kind of things — new (or new to me) intriguing often geeky stuff — but I also like sitting down and pondering the “why” of things. I’m hoping you will take some time to sit down and ponder with me.

So, let me introduce myself. Hi, I’m Gillian, originally from New Brunswick, now living and working in Toronto. I love travelling (not that I can afford it), taking photographs, listening to medieval and renaissance music, and learning about new stuff. I live with Janet, Cai and Cuca. Nice to meet you!

By the way, if you’d like to contact me, you can send me an e-mail at gillian.barfoot[at]gmail[dot]com.

I really like your blog - it may be quite random, but I mean that in a good way. :) You blog about interesting things.

By the way, thanks for adding me (Exploring Our World) to your blogroll - you’re on mine too now!

Gillian,

Wonderful blog. Genuine, compassionate. I appreciate your explorations and your willingness to share what you find.

Thanks so much for your comments. ‘A Brief History of Anxiety’ is one of my favourite posts largely because I’ve experienced clinical depression in my own family, so am keen on reading Patricia’s book.

Also, your blog is excellent. So much to dig into and enjoy. I’ll be a regular :)

Thanks so much to Richard, Shaw, and 88mileshome for your encouraging words!

And I just want to add — to all you “lurkers” — that I’m glad you’ve dropped by. If you find a post interesting and let me know, it would give me a chance to see what your blog is about… chances are that I’ll find it interesting, too!
